Fundraising Update – Winter 2016/2017

We have had a busy couple of months of fundraising, with lots of different activities taking place and many wonderful people involved.

UK Armed Forces

UK Armed Forces personnel deployed on Operation TORAL have raised £280 for Children’s Burns Trust during the 1Royal Irish 100km charity event. The event consisted of two mentor teams who train the Afghan army, an Australian team and the elite 1Royal Irish team; each with 10 team members. The winning 1Royal Irish team completed 100km in a time of 5 hours, 21 mins – which consisted of 20km rowing 30km cycling and 50km running.  The image below shows the elite 1Royal Irish winning team, consisting of snipers, recce and anti tank soldiers.

LFB150

The London Fire Brigade’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations have come to a close and as one of the chosen six charities to benefit from the activities Children’s Burns Trust has received a massive £15,000 which is our share of the funds raised during LFB 150. The fundraising activities included income raised through the sale of their 150th anniversary book and commemorative pin, royalties from the sale of Playmobil fire brigade toys and other events held during the year – including the excellent Gala Dinner in November last year, organised by RAFT. London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said “It has been a great pleasure supporting you during our 150th anniversary.  I trust you will be able to put this money to very good use in all the excellent work you do.”  The image below shows Dany Cotton (centre) and other people from the chosen charities.

A massive thank you also goes to the Community Safety Policy and Projects Team based at London Fire Brigade HQ who raised £500 at a recent event they organised. Big thanks all round to LFB!

Imperial Winter Ball

The Imperial Winter Ball was held on Saturday 4th March and is an annual fundraising event for the Children’s Burns Trust. This year the Ball raised over £6,000 from the valiant efforts of the Ball Committee and the many enthusiastic supporters who have kept the Ball running so successfully for so long. This year’s achievements would not have happened without the experience, dedication and sheer hard work of Princess Marina Lobanov-Rostovsky and her magnificent team. For next year’s Ball, which is expected to take place around the same time of year, we will be redoubling efforts to make it even more enjoyable for those attending and more successful for the Charity. The dance practices begin in November 2017 and the Ball itself will be in March 2018. Please do check the Imperial Winter Balls website for updates.

Kidderminster Fire Station

In November last year Kidderminster Fire Station organised a car wash and donated the proceeds to the Children’s Burns Trust – that very same week we were asked to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Burns Club with the purchase of a new camera. The amount raised by the car-washing fire fighters almost exactly matched the cost of the camera.  The camera was put to immediate use at our Family Weekend when 5 families with burn-injured children attended the weekend programme held at the Fire Fighters Charity’s Jubilee House in Cumbria.

Emergency Appeal

Other people who need to be thanked – especially for their support of our emergency appeal earlier this year include the staff and management of:

  • Angloco Limited
  • Exova Warringtonfire
  • Mr Stephen Turner

A big thanks to our regular supporter The Claims Desk team, who sponsored one family to have an unforgettable day out to an aquarium over the Christmas period.

It isn’t possible to name all the wonderful individuals who raise funds for us – but please be assured of our heartfelt thanks – your generosity and support not only enables continuation of our programme, but also allows us to explore and address new areas where we can be of value.  THANK YOU!
