Family Weekend with the Northern Burn Care Services

In November 2022, after an early morning start and a blustery journey to Walby Farm near Carlisle, the six families from across the Northern Burn Care services joined 12 staff for another fun-packed family weekend.  We started off with a visit to the animal enclosure, feeding the rabbits and then ferret racing and ended up with some brave attempts at the vertical slides after lunch, which are not for the faint-hearted.

Back at Jubilee House, the swimming pool proved as popular as ever with the children and after a wonderful hearty dinner, we enjoyed some singing and music with Jane and Will from Sunbeams Music Trust.

We woke up to blue skies on Saturday which was perfect for walking the Llamas and the visit from the reptiles and furry animals.  Whilst the children enjoyed the swimming, games in the gym and craft sessions the parents were able to attend the sessions on scar management and wellbeing.

Taffy the Storyteller told three enchanting stories to the children whilst the parents enjoyed a lovely evening meal with time to chat with one another. There was good rivalry during the evening quiz with Lorna now nominated official quiz master.

Sunday always comes around far too quickly and after more swimming, a family collage session and the opportunity for a parent from each family to enjoy a 30 minute massage it was time to present the children with their certificates and photo frames.  We also gave each family a copy of Charlie’s story to take home and read.

A huge thank you to the Fire Fighters Charity for the use of the wonderful facilities at Jubilee House and to Andy and the staff on duty over the weekend for looking after us all so well.
