Tuesday 8th webinar

The Children’s Burns Trust is once again partnering with the Child Accident Prevention Trust for Child Safety Week 2021. Child Safety Week is an annual event run by Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented. CAPT’s aim is to help families build confidence and skills in managing risks to children’s safety, and for all children to have the freedom to grow and learn, safe from serious harm.

This year’s Child Safety Week runs from Monday 7th June to Sunday 13th June 2021. The theme is ‘share because you care’ – highlighting how sharing safety knowledge really does help save lives.

The Children’s Burns Trust, whose work is focused on three core areas – prevention being one –  understand first-hand how raising awareness of the dangers everyday items can pose to children really does help reduce the number of burns and scalds that occur each year.

The first partnership between The Children’s Burns Trust and CAPT on the Child Safety Week campaign began in 2019. This year, there will once again be a dedicated day during the week-long event to focus on raising awareness of the risks that lead to children being burned – specifically those relating to hot drink spills.

Free webinar:

On Tuesday 8th June, the charity will be enhancing the Child Safety Week programme with a free webinar on burn prevention and first aid.

The free online event, which begins at 1pm is aimed at parents, carers, grandparents, childcare professionals, teachers, health and social care professionals, and anyone with an interest in child safety. Expert speakers, including specialists from NHS Burns Services, will share with attendees how they can prevent an injury from happening and the right First Aid to administer if an accident does occur.

Paul Fuller, CBE QFSM DL Chairman of Trustees, Children’s Burns Trust and Chief Fire Officer, said:

“The awareness and impact of the annual Child Safety Week is significant and we are once again proud to be supporting the brilliant work of the team at CAPT. As a burns charity, we know first-hand how effective it is to have people sharing key messages of prevention, and through our own work on National Burn Awareness Day we know that sharing information really does help reduce the number of accidents to children each year.

We are delighted to be contributing to Child Safety Week 2021 and are looking forward to delivering a free webinar that is, vitally, open (and free) to all who wish to attend. Our aim is to complement the wider Child Safety Week programme and raise awareness that the greatest risk of burns and scalds to UK children occur as a result of everyday items like hot drink, and how the right first aid can make all the difference should an accident occur “.

Katrina Phillips, Chief Executive, Child Accident Prevention Trust, said:

“We really value the continuing support of the Children’s Burns Trust for Child Safety Week. This year’s theme is ‘share because you care’. Both our charities care passionately about children’s wellbeing. This free webinar sees Children’s Burns Trust sharing their expertise to keep children safe from burns. And the focus on hot drinks – the biggest cause of burns to under fives – could not be more needed. We encourage anyone working with children and families to sign up to Child Safety Week at www.capt.org.uk/csw-sign-up. You’ll receive news and updates and can access free accident prevention resources to use with families and children.”
