Fundraising Update – Autumn 2016

Fundraising activity

It’s been a busy Autumn for our wonderful fundraisers. Here’s a round-up of all the fundraising activity which took place in Autumn 2016:

If someone set you a challenge to run 75 miles in 2 days, would you accept! Well that’s exactly what Shelley Grimes did when she ran the Saltmarsh 75 in October 2016 in support of Children’s Burns Trust. Shelley says “Somebody set me the challenge of running my first ultramarathon – the Saltmarsh 75 – in October 2016.  75 miles in 2 days. To say I was nervous is an understatement as I had heard from past participants that they do not see another runner for hours, that it is in the middle of nowhere with no signposts (across marshland). To prepare I entered several other races to ensure I got enough training in, including the Brighton marathon. No amount of training could have prepared me!  Day 1 saw all the runners adding 2 miles to the route following a wrong turn at the beginning, followed by rain and thunder.  Day 2 saw me at the start line with feet already full of blisters with 37 miles of hobbling ahead.  But now I am the very proud owner of a rare Saltmarsh 75 2016 medal.” Thank you so much Shelley you’ve already exceeded your Fundraising target and we are extremely grateful for your commitment and support.

Shelley at the finishing line

Kidderminster Fire Station held a car wash event in support of the charity in November and raised a wonderful £86.11. It was an amazing coincidence that the following week we received a request from Sheffield Children’s Hospital Burns Club to help with the purchase of a camera – which was exactly the same amount raised by Kidderminster Fire Station.  The camera has already been used to take photos at the recent Family Weekend in November 2016. Thank you Kidderminster Fire Station, your donation allows burns survivors and their families to have a personal record of the fun weekend they experienced in Cumbria and it will continue to do so for many years to come. It also allows us to showcase the wonderful work Burn Care Professionals do on the Family Weekends and Burns Camps.

The Bathroom Manufacturers Association had a Golf Challenge, raffle and dinner on the eve of the Bathroom & Kitchen Industry Conference in October which raised just over £1,500 for us. A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the event.

Steve Lazarus from the Claims Desk is a regular supporter of the charity and he is paying for a burn survivor and their family to have a Christmas Day Out – what a wonderful idea Steve. Thank you so much.

A massive thank you to all our Fundraisers, you are truly inspirational! Without the support of these individuals and organisations we would not be able to continue the invaluable work the charity does in working to prevent burns and scalds happening to children, working with NHS professionals to provide direct help and funding for rehabilitation and direct support to families of burn injured children, their families and hospitals.
