Fundraising update – January 2018

IFEDA, the Independent Fire Engineering & Distributors Association, heard about us via a newsletter that our supporters Means of Escape sent to their contacts on our behalf.  IFEDA kindly decided to raise funds for us at their AGM last autumn – and raised an amazing £1,490 – General Manager, Graham Ferris, said “not bad for 40 people attending.”  We agree!

We have been fortunate to receive donations and support from many of our Corporate Supporters in the last part of 2017 – these included donations from Assa Abloy ,  Aico Ltd Sundown Cinema.  Staff at Exova Warrington RWC held Christmas Raffles.

British Woodworking Federation covered costs we incurred in promoting the 2017 National Burn Awareness Day and FireAngel supported the day by producing an animated video which was viewed over 26,000 on one day alone.

Mum’s Challenge to Raise Awareness and Funds for Children’s Burns Trust

Leia Pennell contacted us earlier in the year to let us know that she was planning an event at work in October.  By organising a cake sale, raffle, games and fancy dress she and her colleagues raised over £500 – and spread the vital word about burns awareness.

Pupils at Flora Gardens Primary SchoolFarringtons Junior School also held cake sales to raise funds for us.

This is just a snapshot of the people and organisations who, by their efforts, donations and resources, enable Children’s Burns Trust to survive.  We receive no government funding and are only able to continue the work that we do as a result of our own fundraising efforts and supporters.  As with many charities, our income has suffered enormously in recent years.  We greatly appreciate all donations – whatever the size!

… and where did the money go?

October to December 2017

In addition to providing emergency grants to families with children in burns wards all over England and Wales, we continued to support the various burns clubs and camps – their special days out and other events.

We also supported three major rehabilitation events last autumn.  In addition to the annual National Jamboree, held at Grafham Water in October, we ran two Family Weekends.  The first was for the London and South East Burn Care Network at the Fire Fighters Charity’s Marine Court in Littlehampton in September.  And the second was in November at their Jubilee House rehabilitation centre in Penrith for the Northern Burncare Network.

Both weekends were hailed a success by the families and the staff – with the usual mixed programme of family activities, children’s programme and parents’ workshops.  Activities at the weekends ranged from a trip to the beach, walking with llama’s, and the ever popular trips to farm parks.   As ever, we are grateful to the Fire Fighters Charity for their support of these invaluable events.

Burns Clubs from all over the country attended the Jamboree at the October half-term.

“I would like to say a special thank you to CBT for supporting the National Jamboree.  The children had a fantastic time and are all asking if they can return next year …. While listening to the children there has been a great deal of talk about their injuries and some great friendships have been forged.”  The Grafters Club, Royal Victoria Infirmary.

 Looking ahead to 2018

Our thanks to everyone currently working hard organising this year’s Imperial Winter Ball in aid of Children’s Burns Trust – to be held at the Caledonian Club on Saturday 3rd March 2018.  If you would like more information please contact admin@imperialwinterball.org
