Activities and Fundraising in 2023
We are extremely grateful to the fantastic individuals and organisations who have supported Children’s Burns Trust in 2023 and include below a snapshot of some of the activities and fundraising achievements.
Individual support
Many of you took on personal challenges to compete in events and we are indebted for your true grit and determination to fundraise on our behalf.
Chris Pascoe and Graham Pinder ran the London Marathon in April raising an amazing amount of money for the charity with the help of their family and friends. Graham obtained a place in the marathon via his running club and having seen the publication of Charlies story in his local press and as a burn survivor himself decided this was the charity for him. Chris said “my experience of the race was incredible from start to finish, and to deliver 3hours 39mins was a dream! The crowds were amazing, shouting out my name and calling out words of encouragement. But crossing the finish line was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done. My entire London Marathon journey has been epic, I would recommend it to anyone. Also, knowing that the work you do is going to make a difference makes it even more special”.
Graham confirmed ‘there is no marathon like London for atmosphere, crowd support, organisation, the list is endless’.
Chris won a place in the ballot and was inspired to run for Children’s Burns Trust by his father who sustained a burn injury as a child.
Other fantastic achievements were made by Dan Bone, whose son sustained a burn injury in 2022 who ran the Southwest 10km in October.
Burn survivor Tanya Earp who completed the 100km Peak District challenge in July.
Ambassador Michelle Whalley amazed us all with her burpee challenge in October, not only completing 110 burpees every day throughout the month to highlight the number of children attending A&E each day with a burn injury, but also recording her daily achievement and promoting a burns awareness or first aid message each day as well as raising over £1000. Well done Michelle for this fantastic achievement.
We also offer our sincere thanks to Rachel Wallace who after recovering from a burn injury herself in June this year decided to fundraise for Children’s burns trust and visited shops in her local community to ask for their support and set up a Just Giving page to raise money over National Burns Awareness in October, as well as promoting burns awareness with her work colleagues and friends.
Burn Professionals
The support of staff working in burn services across the country always amazes us, knowing how busy they are and yet still finding time to help fundraise for the work that we do to support children, families and burn service projects.
Particular thanks go to Nicole Lee, matron at Chelsea & Westminster burns service and Judith Harriot, matron at St Andrews burns service, Chelmsford who along with their colleague Fiona Somerville completed the Isle of Wight 106km ultra challenge in May.
Nicole Lee and Judith Harriot at the finish line, 106kms completed!

We are also extremely grateful to our corporate supporters who support the charity in different ways, in particular to our new corporate supporters Лі Дей for their financial support for National Burns Awareness Day and The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) for their continued support over many years and their very generous donation made to our Chair of trustees at the annual awards ceremony in November. We have also received support from Woodstone Fire Ltd for which we are grateful.
It is with heartfelt thanks to everyone that has helped fundraise for Children’s Burns Trust in 2023 that we are able to offer support to children and their families following a burn injury and continue with our burn prevention work.
