Providing grant support to families and burn services

As the financial year comes to end the charity has awarded just under £18,000 in grants.

We recognise that the financial impact of a burn injury on a family is one anxiety that we can help to reduce with the award of an emergency grant following referral by a health or social care practitioner.

Thirty seven emergency grants were awarded to help relieve the pressure on families at their time of need, with referrals received from thirteen burn services, a school and the community.

The majority of grants were to support travel expenses to return to the burn service for outpatient appointments, with some families living over 100 miles away from the specialist burn service.

In addition, the charity supported 11 general grant requests, including support for children to attend burn camp, a games cart and toys for Chelsea & Westminster burn service, provision of parent packs to three burn services and a place on the skin camouflage training day for Sam, an occupational therapy assistant from the Children’s Burn Service in Sheffield.

Sam provided this wonderful feedback on return from the training day, provided by Finishing Touches and Dans Fund for Burns.

“The course was really interesting, led by knowledgeable staff and aided by the amazing volunteers who allowed us to practise multiple techniques using the skin camouflage products. Attending the course has allowed me to update my theoretical knowledge and broaden my skills to further support patients attending the skin camouflage clinic. Thank you so much for this opportunity.”

All of these grants were made possible by your fundraising, donations, sponsorship and commitment to support our cause.
