Penrith Family Weekend – April 2024

No featured image set

In April, the family rehabilitation weekend for the Northern Burn Care services welcomed five families to the Firefighters rehabilitation Centre in Penrith.

Supported by staff from across the burn care services, the children and parents enjoyed time at Walby farm, three sessions of swimming, a visit from Zoobidoo animals, Sunbeams music group and Taffy the storyteller.  The parents had the opportunity to attend sessions on burn scars and well-being, a quiet meal on the Saturday evening whilst the children were looked after and a relaxing massage on the Sunday morning before heading home.

I am so, so glad I went to the weekend, it has helped me more than I could ever have imagined.

We can’t thank you and your team enough for the break away in Cumbria.  It was a wonderful experience, the 2 (parent)classes and the different kinds of family time and we didn’t have to worry or think about meal times.  I felt so chilled out for those 3 days more than I’ve done for a very very long time.  I made a WhatsApp group with the other families and (my son) loves to talk about the other boys.

Feedback from two parents who attended the weekend

With thanks to the burn care staff who attended this weekend and made sure it went ahead and to the staff at Jubilee House who as always looked after everyone so well.
